About MDF

Market Development Facility is an Australian Government funded multi-country initiative which promotes sustainable economic development, through higher incomes for women and men, in our partner countries. 

We connect individuals, businesses, governments and NGOs with each other, and with markets at home and abroad. This enhances investment and coordination and allows partnerships to flourish, strengthening inclusive economic growth.

MDF is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT). It is implemented by Palladium in partnership with Swisscontact.

At present, MDF’s activities in Timor-Leste are focused on agribusiness, tourism and manufacturing. Many of MDF’s interventions involve working directly with the private sector, as well as government and non-government organisations. 

Each country has its own Country Team, supported by a central operations team. Operational activities in Timor-Leste are led by an Operations Administrator. Other members of the operations team include a Country Accountant, Operations Assistant, drivers and cleaner. 
About the Role

The purpose of this position is to play a key role supporting operations for MDF in Timor-Leste. This position will play a key supporting role in all aspects of operations including logistics, procurement, human resources, etc. MDF is a fast-paced work environment where technical staff work in a dynamic fashion and often travel to the field at short notice. The officer will support this environment by ensuring efficient and smooth day-to-day functioning of all travel arrangements.

  • Relevant university degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in operations, logistics and administrative support to large projects or organisations 
  • Strong personal initiative, and time management skills.
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal skills, and the ability to guide less experienced staff.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office programs.
  • Good written and spoken English language skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken Tetun language skills.
  • A police clearance certificate.
  • Specialised training in business administration.
  • Work experience with international development donors or organisations.
